Walk of Hearts
​Express your sentiment with a personal message on a bright red heart. Each heart will be proudly displayed on lamp posts throughout downtown Independence. Your HEART order is our major fundraising event. Hearts help fund the Flower Baskets, Lighted Wreaths, Hop Festival and many other events. IDA is a non-profit , all volunteer organization.
One side: $35 | Both sides: $65

March 17:
St. Patty’s Day Crawl
Get ready for a night of fun and festivities as we celebrate St. Paddy’s Day in downtown Independence! Whether you walk, crawl, skip, or hop, explore our lively local spots and enjoy drinks, food, and plenty of Irish cheer.
Put on your best green, grab your friends, and join us for a shamrockin’ good time at some of downtown’s most spirited establishments!

June 16 (we hope):
Last Day of School Celebration
School’s out, Summer’s in, and it’s time to party!
Join us for a fun-filled afternoon with interactive booths, delicious treats, and activities to kick off summer in style. Let’s celebrate the end of the school year and the start of an exciting summer adventure!
This event is FREE and runs from 3PM – 5PM.

September 26: Hop & Heritage Festival
Independence is famous for being the historic hop capital of the world. The Hop & Heritage Festival continues to celebrate our community's hop history!
Stay tuned for a new and improved Festival in 2026.
The Hop & Heritage Festival showcases Independence's unique heritage and vibrant community. The festival is a family friendly event.
You can look forward to live music, a cornhole tournament, craft beer, wine, hop history, and more!

October 31:
MI Town Halloween
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Bring the whole family to downtown Independence for a spook-tacular Halloween celebration! Local businesses and organizations will be handing out candy and goodies for all the little (and not so little) ghosts and goblins.
This free, family-friendly event is a great way to enjoy the festive spirit of the season while exploring our charming downtown. Come in costume and join the fun!
